The last day of school before Christmas was always the best day of the year. Even the final day before school broke up for summer never quite matched up to it. Tim had never really understood the point of romantic films. They were cheesy and unrealistic, the only reason he watched them was because a girl had asked him to. That's why he was so shocked when Jack suggested they watch Titanic. But he assumed that, because they were both so interested in film, that Jack wanted a change.
He chuckled as Jack hopped onto the sofa beside him, a little closer than usual but Tim decided not to mention it.
The movie started to play on screen and Jack took a piece of popcorn from the bowl in Tim's lap, tossing it into the air before catching it in his mouth and chewing it with a proud smile on his face.

I can feel my feet moving and the box still gripped tightly in my hands, but my mind remains a blur. Each scene re-enacts itself on the insides of my eyelids like an old projector on a screen, each memory brighter than the last.
The little things play themselves first, the every day moments I took for granted -

Whispered "Good morning"s.
Curling up on the sofa, both on our laptops, but our free hands holding onto the other's.
Playful arguments over whose clothes were whose that neither of us ever won.
Warm arms around my waist whenever Dan snuck up behind me.
Then the more important moments play themselves back

And so I place the box underneath my bed again, leaving a gentle kiss on the lid before hiding it beneath the mattress. I know all too well that it will be a matter of days, hours really, until I open it again and let all of these emotions run loose through my mind. It's the only thing I can do now to remember how to feel anything at all.
I flop onto the bed, grabbing a handful of tissues to catch my tears.

With a small smile and tears pouring from my eyes I put the items back into the box. All of the small things I had collected over the years with Dan. I wipe my running nose on the back of my hand but let the tears fall from my eyes freely, it's ok to be upset, I know that now.
At the funeral I didn't shed a single tear. Everyone was expecting me to, I could tell by the sympathetic looks in their eyes. They were all waiting for me to break, to scream and yell until I was dragged away from him.
But I never did. I was just empty, my mind in a happier place where Dan was still with me.

My hand finds the black, velvet box, lifting it from the other items and cradling it in my palm. I daren't open the lid, knowing that the empty silk lining will do nothing for me but break my already broken heart into more shattered pieces.

"You will?"
"Of course I will!"
The grin that spread across his face assured me that he meant it. His voice was stuttered and his eyes on the verge of tears, but he had never seemed more beautiful in that moment.
I pushed the ring onto his finger and wiped my own eyes before I stood back up, only to be pushed back down again by the force of Dan tackling me in a bear hug.

I pick up the set of keys, the keyring clattering in my hand. I smile and clasp it in my palm, the cold metal digging into my hand as a tear falls from my eye and runs down my cheek.

"Keys, keys," Dan mumbled to himself as he searched for his keys. He was already running late to his meeting, and this set back wasn't helping. "PHIL! Have you seen my-"
I sauntered into the lounge with the keys in question hooked on my finger.
"Where were they?" Dan asked as he took them from me and kissed my cheek.
"On the fridge." I smiled.

Jalex - Distractions

"Heeey Jack," Alex cooed, peering his head through the doorway leading to the back of the tour bus. "What're you doin'?"
Jack didn't even tear his eyes away from the T.V screen as he simply answered. "Home Alone."
Alex rolled his eyes and flopped onto the sofa beside his boyfriend, gently placing his arm around Jack's shoulders.
Alex knew better than to ask Jack why he was watching the film for what seemed the hundreth time. It was Jack's not-so-guilty pleasure,  so he probably should have expected the younger to be watching it.
Alex held back a sigh as Jack leant his head on his shoulder. 'Of course the one day we get time alone he wants to watch this film...' Alex thought and began running his fingers through Jack's hair.
Jack hummed happily as he nudged his glasses further up his nose and nuzzled his head into Alex's neck and lifted his legs to rest on the older's lap.
Alex smirked and pushed Jack's fringe back before nibbling gently on the top of his ear, his grin growing bigger at Jack's stuttered "A-Alex... Wh-what are you d-doing?"
Instead of answering Alex continued to bite along the outside of his boyfriend's ear, Jack just allowing him to and tilting his head to one side.
It was only when Alex started to roll his earlobe between his teeth that Jack found his voice.
"You're not gonna let me watch this, are you?" He asked with a slight nod towards the T.V, the film still playing.
Alex just murmured a muffled "Nope." against Jack's neck and sucked to create a mark.
Jack chuckled and stood up from the sofa, ignoring Alex's whine, and quickly straddled him instead. Alex raised an eyebrow but before he could come up with a sarcastic remark he was silenced by Jack's lips on his own.
"I'd rather, make out, with you, anyway," Jack gasped between kisses, dragging his hands up Alex's chest to rest on his shoulders. He pulled away and pressed his forehead against the singer's, going a little cross-eyed in an attempt to meet his eyes. "I love you."
"Even more than Home Alone?" Alex asked with a smile.
"Even more than Home Alone." Jack agreed and pushed Alex to lay down on the sofa. As he joined their lips again Jack subtly reached for the remote control, promptly switching it off and focussing his attention on the beautiful man beneath him and the few hours they still had alone.
